I wake up smiling knowing I get to do what I love.
1. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Rich Glenn, and I’m originally from El Paso, Texas, but currently living in Oklahoma City, OK. I’m a full-time personal trainer at Gold’s Gym.
2. What’s a typical day look like for you?
My alarm goes off at 4:30am every week day, and I spend my day investing in the health and future of my clients. Fitness has become my passion so I see the future benefits of starting now at whatever age or place in life someone is for a better future. I plug my personal workouts in during the day and I usually finish up about 8pm with my last client and hit reset the next day. I live in a gym/box 85% of the time.
3. How did you get started on your current fitness journey?
Growing up I was always last picked, I was overweight, got picked on, didn’t Make the cut on teams, typical story. I had a high school baseball coach invest in me my sophomore year and teach me from the ground up, I found joy in being accepted and received a scholarship my senior year to a juco. I decided to walk on at a d2 school that had my degree and turned down a few offers from smaller schools and spent the next few years working for a spot.
I worked hard and focused on being the best athlete I could be and found a deeper connection training than playing. I graduated, moved to Oklahoma and continued keeping my fitness up and wound up changing from engineering to personal training 3 years ago and have loved it more ever since. I wake up smiling knowing I get to do what I love.
4. What’s one goal you’re currently training for?
CrossFit Games Central Regionals in 2017
5. What’s one life goal you’re currently pursuing outside of fitness?
Making sure, despite all my shortcomings, mistakes and trials that I impact those I interact with and my son especially in a way that leads them to become stronger, in mind/body/spirit.
6. What does it mean to you to Compete Every Day?
Simply that yesterday was yesterday, and if I let yesterday define then I’ve lost the chance to make today the best day yet
7. What/who do you compete for?
I compete for the little boy that doesn’t think he can. For the single mother of 3 that has lost the will to fight. For the dad that has to face his family to let them know he lost his job. To show these and all that we are not defined by the limitations others put on us but rather by how we choose to challenge ourselves and face our trials. Head on. Fitness is my lifetime metaphor and a we improve our health one rep at a time so do we also improve our life one day at a time. So why not compete daily to do so?
