I look down at my wristband that says Compete Every Day and I tell myself, “It’s go time”, then I go do my job and try to get guys out.
1. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Logan Bawcom and I a 27 year old professional baseball player with the Los Angeles Dodgers. I’m happily married to my beautiful wife Jordan, and have 3 puppies and reside in Dallas, Texas.
2. What’s a typical day look like for you?
Get a good nights rest, then go to the coffee first thing in the morning with a nice breakfast. Head to the ballpark a little after noon to start my day. We usually stretch around 3 for a 7 o’clock game. I get my throwing and running in to get ready for the game at night. Then at 7, it’s game time. Post game, I enjoy a dinner with my wife back at the house.
3. How did you get started on your current journey?
I was drafted in 2010 so I’ve been training specifically in baseball since I could recall. I played college ball and workouts have changed here and there each offseason depending on my needs for that season.
4. What’s one goal you’re currently training for?
Ideally my goal would be to get to the big leagues this season and have success up there. I’m having my best season of my career this year in AAA so just going to build off that.
5. What’s one life goal you’re currently pursuing outside of fitness?
I’m trying to be the best husband I can be. Being apart from my wife a good part of the season is hard, but having good communication and cherishing our time we do have together is big for us. I try to do everything I can to make her feel special because she truly is super woman.
6. What does it mean to you to Compete Every Day?
It means going out there everyday and working the hardest I can to achieve my goal of being a successful big league pitcher. Before each inning I pitch, I look down at my wristband that says Compete Every Day and I tell myself, “It’s go time”, then I go do my job and try to get guys out.
7. What is one obstacle you’re proud you’ve overcome on your journey?
Being a small town kid from west Texas and working my tail off to get drafted. I was a chunky kid out of high school and went on to junior college and worked hard on trimming down and getting myself in better shape each year. I then transferred after two seasons to UT-Arlington and had a good junior year and got drafted in the 17th round by the Dodgers. I didn’t let it stop there though, I had to go to work in a very tough job where you got to be at your best each outing or you could be released and sent back home. Now I’m 6 years into it and still have success so I’d say it’s been a great career path and an absolute blessing.
8. What/who do you compete for?
I’m a believer in Christ so when I go out on the mound, my prayer is that God gets the glory. He truly blessed me with the arm to play professionally so He deserves the credit. I compete for Him in every aspect of my life and baseball has been a great avenue and mission field for the Lord. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
