“I compete for myself, because I don’t want to be the person I was 5-6 years ago!”
1. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Taylor Muhleman, 27 years old from San Antonio, TX! I am currently a cosmetologist and part time Crossfit coach at Bedlam Crossfit. I love what I do in both of my jobs, because I get to better people, and make them feel better about themselves!
2. What’s a typical day look like for you?
My days are a little crazy, and each day is a little different! Monday and Tuesday’s I am at the gym coaching all day, and am also in charge of the apparel. I love the days I get to spend all day at the gym, seeing all of our members!
Wednesday through Saturday I work in the salon. I am self employed, so essentially I run my own little business inside a bigger business! It’s gets crazy at some points, but also very gratifying at the end of the day, knowing that people feel good about themselves when they leave! After I get off of work, I head to the gym, where I train for about 2 hours!
Just about everyday I get home about 8:30, make dinner, take dogs for a walk, and get ready for the next day!
3. How did you get started on your current fitness journey?
I got started in my fitness journey about 4 years ago! Before then I wasn’t into the workout scene, I just didn’t know how or what to workout. One of my friends was an investor at a Crossfit gym and said I should really try it out, so I did! Day 1 I was hooked! The feeling I got after I had just finished “Fran”, was like no feeling I’ve had ever had! I felt like I had accomplished something I never knew I could! After that, I never looked back, and just wanted to keep going and see what else my body was capable of doing!
After seeing the improvements I got with Crossfit, I wanted to help other people achieve their goals! It’s so inspiring to see the members of our gym,day in and day out, achieve their goals!
4. What’s one goal you’re currently training for?
My training goals have shifted a bit in the past couple months. I’m looking to have more fun in my training, and not make it stressful. Before, I would let little things stress me out, like not hitting my numbers I wanted to hit, or just beating myself up if I didn’t do good in my workouts. My training is still the same, hard, and challenges me everyday, but my goal now is to have fun with it! I’m human and not everyday am I going to be perfect in my training.
5. What’s one life goal you’re currently pursuing outside of fitness?
I would really like to go to school for nutrition! I have found a college in California that offers holistic nutrition courses online. It’s something I’ve looked into for quite a while, and it’s time that I immerse myself into learning!
6. What does it mean to you to Compete Every Day?
To Compete Every Day means, to inspire, to be positive, to the best you can be. I’m not here to be mediocre, I’m here to stand out, to be a positive role models for others. Every day I wake up with a positive attitude, ready to start my day! When I’m coaching at the gym, I Compete, compete to be the best coach for the athletes, to praise them for a job well done! When it comes to my training, I compete to be the best I can be that day! Everyday is a new day to give it your all and Compete!
7. What is one obstacle you are proud you’ve overcome on your journey?
One thing I am proud to have overcome is being a smaller athlete, but still competing as RX. I can remember my first competition as an RX athlete, thinking ” Holy sh*#! I’m the size of these girls legs!” I was a little intimidated, scared, and most of all didn’t want to let my team down. I went out on the floor, ready to compete! Even though the weights might be heavier for me, I might not move them as fast as the other girls, but I still go out there and give it my all! Never giving up, even though there were times I wanted to! I keep fighting because I know I am capable of doing those workouts.
I like to be an example to other smaller athletes who are afraid to compete at a higher level, because there’s no reason you can’t do it! If you try your hardest, and did the best you could, that’s all that matters. Show them that size means nothing!
8. What/who do you compete for?
I compete for myself, and for others around me! I compete for myself, because I don’t want to be the person I was 5-6 years ago! I didn’t live a healthy lifestyle, and didn’t even think about going to the gym! When I’m training, I feel healthy, strong, and motivated, that’s what makes me compete! I compete to be a role model for my sister and brothers, to show them positivity and be a leader for them. I also compete for the people who ask me about working out, or how to eat better. I tell them my back story, and how I got started into living healthier, and hope I can inspire them to do the same!
