An off-season of turmoil had left many New Orleans Saints’ fans wondering what would become of their team this season. No head coach all season. No assistant coach for multiple weeks. And defensive leaders Jonathan Vilma and Will Smith were expected to miss the entire season after Roger Goodell levied heavy penalties for “bounty gate.”
But just as the great teams do, the Saints trusted each other and stay unified in their approach and response. The Saints would go marching on.
On Friday, a judge overturned the NFL commissioner’s original ruling and threw out the penalties handed down to the defensive players. Jonathan Vilma, although injured, would return to the team. Will Smith will suit up today for the Saints. And the NFL Players’ Association celebrated. The players knew they were innocent and stuck to their word when faced with all types of adversity. The truth eventually won out.
This year has the makings of being a special one for the squad. All the world had turned their back on them. Now, as kickoff looms within the coming hours, the team will respond the only way they know how to – win.
Let the entire world see what the Saints of New Orleans are made of.
